Break ’em out of Boarding Walking Program

Thanks to a generous grant from Athletes for Animals https://athletesforanimals.org/, we received $1,000 to begin a walking program for dogs in boarding.  We realize that dogs sitting in boarding leads to poor habits for dogs, increased stress and anxiety, and even depression.

Benefits:  Increased well-being (for humans and dogs), increased fitness, increased community engagement, increased pool of potential fosters, increased socialization of rescues.

Prerequisites: Walkers must complete the volunteer application and required training.

TXHR provided items: Walkers will be provided an Athletes for Animals t-shirt, Adopt slip-lead leash, Adopt bandana, and TXHR business cards.  Collars with TXHR tags will also be provided.  TXHR branded apparel is also (ALWAYS) appropriate.  Please return the Adopt leash and bandana to Dogtopia at the end of each walk.

You provide: Your time and your enthusiasm for the Rescue and the boarded dogs.  Become acquainted with the age and personality of the walked dog through his/her bio.  We encourage interaction with people during the walk, and liberal distribution of business cards is an added boost to our profile and mission.  Take LOTS of pictures and send to social@texashuskyrescue.org.  Also, please share any observations you have in the email, as well as posting liberally on the volunteer page.  Our foster dogs also request we mention providing the occasional treat, but please be careful not to over-treat them, no matter how cute or pathetic they may act.

Walkers in the DFW area (Dogtopia at Highland Village) coordinate with Brandi Kazee (brandi@texashuskyrescue.org) and in the San Antonio area (Dogtopia at Alamo Ranch) coordinate with Rebecca Meares-Jones (rebecca@texashuskyrescue.org).

Note: No overnight stays are approved, just day trips out of boarding. Also, please consider downloading and using Wooftrax Walk For A Dog application for Texas Husky Rescue every time you walk!
