Bolt-From Disney Puppy to The Incredible Journey

Most dogs have stories we never know….and we can’t really piece parts together with how we got from Point A to Point B. But we’re going to tell you a story about a VERY lucky dog that proves three points….1) kind people engage with lost dogs, 2) microchips work, and 3) Texas Husky Rescue dogs are FOREVER part of our pack.

Meet Bolt in 2020, when he was part of the Disney litter, born to a husky mom and who-knows-what dad! Stitch, Max, and Bolt were littermates, and all adopted to different homes. Bolt never wrote, never called, but many of our alumni don’t, so we don’t worry when we don’t hear from them.

UNTIL…..we get a call from someone saying they found our dog by using the microchip information. It is our practice to keep Texas Husky Rescue on all the microchips for this reason. The adopters were not responsive to the call, so we contacted Bolt’s amazing Good Samaritan for more information.

Turns out….Bolt found the ONE place he would be safe and cared for. All the way in North Central Oklahoma, far, far away. He was over 300 miles away from where we placed him. We have no idea how he got there, how long he was gone, or what adventures he may have had. We aren’t going to speculate, and Bolt isn’t talking.

Angie, the good Sam, says Bolt came straight up to her, and was “what’s up?”, and he let her take him to safety. He was traveling with another dog, was wearing a different collar with tags belonging to a female, and he was ROUGH looking. The other dog was not as social, but Angie got Bolt to safety. We don’t know what his Incredible Journey was, but he was hot, tired, hungry, and flea-infested.

Angie took him to her vet, and contacted us. This is where Bolt REALLY hit pay-dirt. Angie has a board and train facility, with very nice kennels, and a great yard to play. He slept safe, fed, watered, and on a comfortable bed for the first time in who-knows-how-long?

The vet checked him out, and Angie sheltered him while we work details to bring him back to our pack. She says he is the sweetest dog, knows a few commands, and is not at all interested in her cat! He rides GREAT in the car, and does have good manners….no accidents in his kennel. Thanks to good hydration, food, and feeling safe, he gained about three pounds in a few days. He’s a big boi (about 75 pounds) but has missed some meals, so he still has some weight to gain.

We will not return him to his adopters. We don’t know what circumstances led to Bolt being on the loose, but we will be looking for a new forever home for him when he has a chance to get healthy and recover. It is part of the contract we make with our adopters, and our promise to each husky we rescue….we will ALWAYS take you back, and you will ALWAYS have a safe home. But sometimes, we need microchips and good citizens to make that promise complete.

Angie is amazing, and we can’t thank her enough for being the Angel on earth for Bolt. Give her a follow at https://www.facebook.com/acdogtrainer. Bolt gives 5/5 for his time with her! His Incredible Journey is over, but his new one (complete with his “Disney perfect happily ever after”) is about to begin!

NOTE: Bolt was neutered while part of our Rescue, so he did not contribute to the dog over-population problem while he was a stray dog. It is ALWAYS important to spay and neuter your pets.
